Securing your Payment Terminals
Follow these guidelines to help protect your payment terminals when using Oracle Payment Cloud Service:
- Use Secure Wi-Fi: Always connect your payment terminals to Wi-Fi networks that are password protected.
- Regular Inventory Checks: In the Oracle Payment Cloud Service, click Terminals at the bottom of the page to view all registered devices. Physically verify that each device in your inventory matches what is shown in the system. Be sure to account for devices that are on hand but not yet registered to a payment location.
- Automatic Software Updates: Keep terminals powered on so they automatically receive the latest software updates. Learn more about Firmware updates.
- Train Your Staff: Educate staff to stay alert and report any suspicious activity involving payment terminals.
- Monitored Environments: Always store and operate terminals in areas that are monitored or supervised, both during and outside business hours.
- Regular Inspections: Check new terminals when received—and all terminals at regular intervals—for signs of tampering.
- Verify Access Requests: Confirm the identity of anyone requesting access to a terminal, including those claiming to be repair or service personnel.
- Prevent Skimming: Follow PCI best practice guidance. This document was created by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) and is hosted on their website.
- Report Theft Immediately: If a terminal is lost or stolen, contact Oracle Support right away.
