Change the default security realm

Before you begin

Configure a new security realm. See Configure new security realms.

Note: By default, when you create a new security realm, automatic realm restart is enabled in that realm. If you retain this default setting, you do not need to restart WebLogic Server after you activate non-dynamic configuration changes to this new realm. The changes go into effect immediately, including making this the new default security realm. See Enable automatic realm restart and Using Automatic Realm Restart.

By default, a realm named myrealm is the default security realm when you install WebLogic Server.

To change the default security realm:

  1. If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit (see Use the Change Center).
  2. In the left pane, select your domain to open the Settings page for your domain.
  3. Expand Security > General.
  4. Select the security realm you want to set as the default security realm and click Save.

Note: If you create a new security realm but do not configure the required security providers, the realm will not be available from the pull-down menu.

  5. In the Change Center, click Activate Changes. If automatic realm restart is enabled, you do not need to restart WebLogic Server for changes to take effect.

To verify that you set the default security realm correctly, open the Security Realms page. The Realms table appears. All the realms available in the domain are listed. The default security realm has the Default Realm set to true.
