Description of the illustration cache.gif

This figure shows a client making a request to a business service (through a proxy service) with a solid arrow pointing to the right. The business service label shows that result caching is enabled. An external service sits to the right of the business service. A dotted request arrow from the business service points to the external service, and a dotted response arrow returns back to the client. A dotted arrow also points from the external service to the cached result.

Below the business service is a cached result, shown in a box. Inside the cached result is a smaller green box, the Cache Key that in turn contains three smaller boxes labeled Cache Token, ServiceRef, and Operation. The Cache Token box is yellow.

From the business service, the solid request arrow moves down and points to the Cache Token box in the Cache Key, and another solid arrow drops from the cache key to the cached result.

A solid response arrow moves from the cached result back up to the client.
