        Calculate the memory footprint for this instance. The calculation is discretionary to the implementation.

        Note: If utilizing SimpleMemoryCalculator.sizeOf(Object), do not pass the instance itself as it will result in endless recursion.

        Returns:
        the memory footprint (in bytes) of this instance
