  2. In the left pane, expand Diagnostics and select Diagnostic Modules.
  3. On the Summary of Diagnostic Modules page, click the name of the module for which you want to create a policy.
  4. On the Settings for [Module Name] page, select Configuration > Policies and Actions > Policies.
  5. Click New.
  6. On the Create a Policy page, do the following:
    1. Enter a name for the policy in the Policy Name field.
    2. Select Smart Rule from the Policy Type list.
    3. To enable or disable the policy, select or deselect the Enable Policy box.
  7. Click Next.
  8. On the Select Smart Rule page, select the desired smart rule from the list of available smart rules.
  9. Click Next.
  10. The Provide Parameter Values For the Selected Smart Rule page describes the select smart rule and its parameters. Enter appropriate values in the parameter fields.
  11. Click Next.
  12. On the Policy Schedule Frequency page, select a frequency for this policy's schedule from the Frequency list:
    • To schedule the policy to execute every N seconds, minutes or hours, choose Every N Seconds, Every N Minutes, or Every N Hours.
    • To schedule the policy to execute on specific days of the week, select Specific Days of Week.
    • To schedule the policy to execute on specific days of the month, select Specific Days of Month.

  13. Click Next.
  14. On the Policy Schedule page, enter the details for your schedule based on the frequency you selected on the previous page:
    • If you selected Every N Seconds, Every N Minutes, or Every N Hours, enter the desired number of seconds, minutes, or hours in the Repeat field.
    • If you selected Specific Days of the Week, specify the time of day, including the time zone, at which your policy should execute using the Time field. Select the days of the week for your schedule by moving the desired days from the Available column to the Chosen column in the Days of the Week section.
    • If you selected Specific Days of the Month, specify the time of day, including the time zone, at which your policy should execute using the Time fields. 16. On the Configure Policy Alarm page, select an alarm option. This setting determines when a policy expression will be re-evaluated after it evaluates to true. If a policy is configured as an alarm, then the policy will not be evaluated again until the alarm is reset.
    • Select Do not use an alarm if you want the policy expression to continue to be evaluated without resetting it.
    • Select Use a manual reset alarm if you want to indicate manually when you want the policy expression to be re-evaluated
    • Select Use an automatic reset alarm if you want the policy expression to be re-evaluated after a specified time. If you select this option, you must also enter the reset period (in seconds) in the Automatic Reset Period field.
  17. Click Next.
  18. On the Configure Policy Actions page, you can assign scaling and other diagnostic actions to the policy.

To assign a scaling action to this policy, select an action in either Choose a Scale Up Action or Choose a Scale Down Action. Alternatively, you can click New Scale Up Action or New Scale Down Action to create a new scaling action for this policy. Note: You can only assign one scaling action to a policy.

To assign diagnostic actions to the policy, select and move one or more existing actions from the Available list to the Chosen list. (You can associate one or more actions with a single policy.) To create actions, see Create actions for policies in a diagnostic system module.

  19. Click Finish.
  20. In the Change Center, click Activate Changes.
