Target string monitors

If you plan to target the SNMP agent that contains a string monitor to the Administration Server, specify which servers in the domain you want the monitor to observe.

If you target SNMP agents to individual Managed Servers, you do not need to specify which servers you want to monitor. An SNMP agent on a Managed Server monitors only its host Managed Server.

To target string monitors:

  1. If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit (see Use the Change Center).
  2. In the Administration Console, under Domain Structure, expand Diagnostics and select SNMP.
  3. On the Summary of SNMP Agents page, in the Server SNMP Agents table, click the name of an SNMP agent.
  4. On the SNMP Agent: Configuration: General page, click the String Monitors sub-tab.
  5. On the SNMP String Monitors page, click the name of the string monitor.
  6. Select the Servers tab.
  7. On the Servers tab, check each server on which you want the monitor to function.

If you are configuring a string monitor for a domain-wide resource, such as a file store, select the Administration Server.

  8. Click Save.
  9. To activate these changes, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Activate Changes.
Not all changes take effect immediately—some require a restart (see Use the Change Center).
