This section introduces the new features and enhancements of Oracle WebCenter Content.

12c (12.2.1.4.0) — September 2019

Feature Description
DISDefaultDocInfoTab property This property enables you to configure the windows explorer preview pane. If you set the value of this property to IMAGE_DATA, the Windows Explorer preview pane displays the document image data page. If you set the value to RENDITION_INFO, the Windows Explorer preview pane displays the document rendition information page. See Configuring Windows Explorer Preview Pane in Administering Oracle WebCenter Content.

NativeOsUtils

The NativeOsUtils component is now built on Microsoft Visual Studio 2013.

Feature Description

Advanced Security

Introduced OracleAdvancedSecurityConfig component to handle the search-related QueryText validation for Core (GET_SEARCH_RESULTS) and FrameworkFolders (FLD_FOLDER_SEARCH) components. The OracleAdvancedSecurityConfig component is enabled by default. See Advanced Security Options in Administering Oracle WebCenter Content.

AutoSuggestConfig

The AutoSuggestConfig component is now configurable and can be enabled or disabled from the Component Manager page. See Enabling or Disabling a Component Using the Component Manager in Administering Oracle WebCenter Content.

Note: If the AutoSuggestConfig component is disabled, the Auto Suggest feature of search fields in the WebCenter Content UI is hidden. The Search field in the side bar, folder picker, or library picker scenarios, such as copy, move, create shortcut, create saved search, and file document windows, is hidden. In addition, the Banner Search Box doesn’t automatically prompt results when a search term is entered.

Feature Description

SAML-based Single Sign-On

Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) enables cross-platform user authentication between applications. When users log in to the application that is configured as a SAML source, they automatically gain access to all the applications configured as SAML destinations without having to log in to each application separately. See Configuring SAML-Based Single Sign-On in Administering Oracle WebCenter Content.

New configuration variable

Introduced a configuration variable LM_preferoitrendering within the LinkManager component. If the value of this configuration variable is set to TRUE, OIT (htmlexport) uses the internal rendering engine to extract links from the content.

12c (12.2.1.3.0) — August 2017

Feature Description

Universal Records Management (URM) Upgrade

With this upgrade, URM will no longer require a dedicated server but instead URM components will be consumed directly in the WebCenter Content server.

A new option is introduced that allows you to enable full Records Management functionality on the Content Server, including Physical and External sources. See Configuring the Records Management in Content Server.

WebCenter Content User Interface: Annotations

The way you modify annotations has changed. See How do I modify annotations?

Other Miscellaneous Updates

  • Java-based administration applets have been moved to Java Network Launch Protocol (JNLP).

  • Lift and shift of on-premise WebCenter Content to Java Cloud Service (JCS) to enable WebCenter Portal’s migration to cloud.

  • Vertical Cluster support.

12c (12.2.1.1) — June 2016

Feature Description
Trash

In the WebCenter Content UI, deleting items sends them to the Trash folder instead of being permanently deleted. See Deleting Libraries, Folders, and Documents.

Hybrid Enterprise Content Management (HECM)

In the WebCenter Content UI, you can integrate Oracle WebCenter Content with Oracle Content and Experience to share, copy, and upload content to the cloud server and maintain an easy access to content on the go. See Working with Oracle Content and Experience.

Scan

The process of uploading documents through a scanner has changed in this release. See Uploading Documents from a Web Browser.

Upgrading Inbound Refinery

You can upgrade older versions of the Inbound Refinery (IBR) to the current release. Earlier, newer versions of Inbound Refinery had to be installed instead of being upgraded.

Availability of two different web service implementations for Managed Attachments

Oracle Universal Content Management (UCM) and Application Extension Framework (AXF) provide the following web service implementations for Managed Attachments:

Use of coherence instead of Java Object Cache (JOC)

Oracle Imaging and Process Management (IPM) and AXF uses coherence instead of JOC resulting in the clustering behavior change. See Clustering for AXF in Imaging Managed Servers.

Annotations Update

Annotations and supporting content associated with a document are treated as attachments.

Oracle Coherence

Java Object Cache (JOC) has been replaced with Oracle Coherence.

Imaging Managed Server

The imaging managed server which was earlier deprecated in 12.2.1 is now brought back in this release.

  • WebCenter Forms Recognition now supports Windows Server 2016.

  • WebCenter Forms Recognition now supports SQL Server 2016 SP1.

  • WebCenter Forms Recognition now supports Oracle 12c R2.

  • WebCenter Forms Recognition now supports .NET Framework 4.6.

  • Discontinued support for SQL Server 2008 R2.

  • Discontinued support for SQL Server 2012 SP2.

Brainware API

WebCenter Forms Recognition now supports the new Brainware RESTful API provides methods to upload and manage external documents to be further processed by Runtime Server.

Runtime Server

The Runtime Service Properties dialog provides a new option on the Import tab named ImportGroup. This enables the user to specify an import group to import documents from external batches created using Brainware API.

Document Filters

  • WebCenter Forms Recognition now supports Document Filters 11.4.0.2822, which provides several updates and enhancements.

  • Added the method TestString to the SCBCdrFormatEngine class to enable calculation of the distance of an arbitrary text against a Format String expression.

12c (12.2.1.3.0) — July 2018

QualitySoft Engine

QualitySoft engine now replaces Recognita Barcode engine for barcode recognition of PDF documents and images.

Platform enhancements

WebCenter Forms Recognition now supports:
  • Amazon EC2
  • Integration of Document Filters 11.4.0.2480, which provides several updates and enhancements
  • Windows 10
  • Oracle 12c Database
  • .NET Framework 4.5.2

Scripting

The following methods and properties are introduced:
  • SetFieldFocus method: Used to update HighlightField, HighlightColumn, and HiglightRow settings
  • ExportToXML method: Exports Workdoc data to an XML file with a specific format
  • TestString method: Enables calculation of the distance of an arbitrary text against a format string expression
  • SkipDocumentReprocessingAfterMerging named property: Improves performance when merging large documents
  • DocumentBinarizationMode property: Improves OCR results for grayscale and colored images
  • SrchFlag property: Enables the string construction rule options Compare Case Sensitive and Keep Spaces Between Connected Words
Web Verifier Web Verifier now supports Google Chrome. It offers improved security by using SECURE or HTTPONLY attributes for all web cookies. Also, a few enhancements around the red highlight box are made.
