Infrastructure Services

The following features, enhancements, and changes related to infrastructure services are introduced in this Oracle Linux 9 release.

chrony Updated to Version 4.5

The chrony packages are updated to version 4.5. Notable changes include:

  • Added the AES-GCM-SIV cipher to shorten Network Time Security (NTS) cookies to avoid some length-specific blocking of Network Time Protocol (NTP).

  • Improved automatic NTP source replacement for unreachable NTP sources.

  • Logging of important changes made by command requests using the chronyc command.

  • Periodic refreshes of NTP sources. The default refresh period is two weeks. You can disable refreshes by adding the refresh 0 configuration entry in the chrony.conf file.

  • Improved logging of source selection failures and falsetickers.

  • Added the hwtstimeout directive to configure timeout for late hardware transmit timestamps.

  • Added the chronyd-restricted service as an optional service for minimal client-only configurations so that the chronyd service can be started without root privileges.

  • Fixed the presend option in interleaved mode.

  • Fixed reloading of modified sources from the sourcedir directories.

linuxptp Updated to Version 4.2
