Servicing the System Battery (CRU)

This section describes how to service the Real Time Clock system battery, 3V Lithium Coin Cell Battery CR 2032 that is located inside the system module (SMOD). Perform this procedure to replace a failed system battery (also known as an RTC battery) installed in SMOD0 or SMOD1. This is an internal component accessed from the back of the server by removing the SMOD.

The system battery maintains system time when the server is powered off and a time server is unavailable. If the server fails to maintain the proper time when the system is powered off and not connected to a network, replace the battery. Caution:

Ensure that all power is removed from the server before removing or installing the battery. You must disconnect the power cables from the system before performing this procedure.
