Configure Oracle Database Zero Data Loss Autonomous Recovery Service

Before we can start configuring backup and recovery, we must create the required security policies, add network security rules, and add a Recovery Service subnet.

Create Security Policies

These steps describe how to create a new security policy for Recovery Service. You can skip this step if you have the required security policies.

  1. Open the navigation menu, and click Identity and Security.
  2. Click Policies.
  3. Navigate to the root compartment, and click Create Policy.
  4. Enter a name for the policy.
  5. (Optional) Enter a description for the policy.
  6. Click the Policy use cases drop-down, and select Autonomous Recovery Service.
  7. Click the Common policy templates drop-down, and select Ability to do all things with Autonomous Recovery Service.
  8. Click Create.
A new security policy for Recovery Service is created.

Add Network Security Rules

These steps describe how to add the required network security rules for Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure to communicate with Recovery Service.

  1. Open the navigation menu, and click Identity and Security.
  2. Click Virtual Cloud Networks (VCN).
  3. Select the VCN where the Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure database is configured.
  4. Click Security Lists.
  5. Select the default security list.
  6. Add two new rules to allow Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure to connect to Recovery Service:
    1. One rule to allow ingress connections from the subnets of the current VCN to secure port 2484.
    2. Another rule to allow ingress connections from the subnets of the current VCN to port 8005.

Add Recovery Service Subnet

Adding the Recovery Service Subnet tells the Oracle Database Zero Data Loss Autonomous Recovery Service how to connect to the Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure being protected. To isolate backup traffic from the application traffic, we recommend to add the Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure backup subnet as the Recovery Service subnet. These steps describe how to add the Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure backup subnet as the Recovery Service subnet.

  1. Open the navigation menu, and click Oracle Database.
  2. Click Database Backups.
  3. Under Resources, click Recovery Service Subnets.
  4. Click Register Recovery Service subnet.
  5. Enter a name for the Recovery Service Subnet.
  6. Select a compartment where the Recovery Service Subnet will be created.
  7. Select the Virtual Cloud Network (VCN) where the Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure database is configured.
  8. Select the Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure backup subnet.
  9. Click Register.
A new Recovery Service Subnet is created.
