About Deploying NetBackup

While Oracle recommends that you use OSB 18.1 as your backup solution, if your organization has already invested in NetBackup enterprise licenses and would want to continue using that as a backup solution, use the following procedure. The standard NetBackup solution consists of one master server, one media server, and one or more clients.

NetBackup Master server is used to manage backups, archives, and restores. It is where the backup catalog along with NetBackup internal databases containing information about NetBackup backups and restores resides.

NetBackup Media server is utilized to provide additional storage to your backup environment, allowing NetBackup to utilize storage devices which are attached to them and increase overall backup and restore performance by distributing the network load.
