Run the Disaster Recovery Plan

When the disaster recovery plan runs, you can log in to the recovery site’s vCenter Server, navigate to the Site Recovery UI, and test the recovery plan created as part of the SRM configuration.

For operational consistency, test the recovery plan at regular intervals to ensure that the configuration is intact, all the VMs are replicating without errors, and no configuration issues occur. Run the test and ensure that all steps show successful results,

Resolve Failovers

If a failure occurs, run the successfully validated recovery plan from the primary site to the recovery site. Recover all the protected VMs to the recovery site. Ensure that the operation is successful.

If the operation is not successful, check the errors and troubleshoot. Log in to the recovery site’s vCenter Server and verify that the protected VMs are up and running. Check the network connectivity and the integrity of the data.

Run Reprotect to Synchronize Recovery Site with Former Primary Site

When the primary site is available again, synchronize it with the recovery site. Make the current recovery site the new primary site, and click Reprotect to synchronize it with the former primary site. Now the recovery site becomes the primary site and the primary site becomes the recovery site.

Run the Recovery Plan to Fail Back to Former Primary Site

At this stage, the replication is happening between the new primary (former recovery) site and the new recovery (on-premises or former primary) site. Test the recovery plan to validate that it’s successful.

Run the recovery plan to fail back to the original primary site. The VMs should move back to the primary vCenter Server. Reprotect to bring everything back to its original operational state.
