Description of the illustration monitoring.png

The image illustrates the flow of events data through a monitoring and notification process.

On the left of the image is an icon representing Customer Applications, Services, and Resources. Just below is an icon representing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. In the center of the image is a larger area split into two connected boxes, the first labeled Metrics and the second labeled Alarms. On the right is an icon labeled Message Notification, and at the bottom of the image are icons labeled Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Console and Customer Monitoring Tools.

Within the Metrics box are two subcomponents labeled Raw Metric Data and Aggregated Metric Data (Statistic, Interval, Dimensions). Within the Alarms box is a subcomponent labeled Triggers.

One flow of event data is shown first, representing a high CPU condition that should trigger a notification. An arrow points from the Customer Applications, Services, and Resources icon to an icon labeled CPU.80 CPU.90 within the Raw Metric Data. From there, an arrow points to a similar icon labeled CPU.85 in the Aggregated Metric Data box. Continuing along this line, another arrow points to an icon labeled 80% in the Triggers box. This leads to an icon representing an alarm status, and then on to the Message Notification icon on the far right.

Another flow of event data is shown below the first, representing a moderate CPU condition that should be monitored, but should not trigger an alert notification. An arrow points from the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure icon to an icon labeled CPU.70 CPU.60 in the Raw Metric Data. From there, an arrow points to a similar icon labeled CPU.75 in the Aggregated Metric Data box. Two arrows lead from this icon: one points downward to the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Console and Customer Monitoring Tools, and also to the left, labeled Autoscaling, back to the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure component on the left. This represents an option to automatically increase Oracle Cloud Infrastructure resources when certain thresholds are met. The other arrow leads from the CPU.75 icon to an icon labeled 10% in the Triggers box. This leads to an icon representing an acceptable status, and the flow ends there.
