Minimizing Pass-thru Activity Between LSMs

To improve tape library performance, it is important to minimize pass-thru activity from one library to another. When cartridges and drives are in connected libraries, it is always desirable if tape mounts occur when both the drive and the cartridge are in the same LSM (rail within a library). Mounts that require fewer pass-thrus result in better performance.

The following figure shows the pass-thrus that can be required when a cartridge and drive are in different LSMs.
