Explore Database Management Using Demo Mode

You can use demo mode to explore Database Management functionality immediately without having to configure a monitored environment.

When demo mode is enabled, Database Management provides curated demo data for supported Oracle Database types and Exadata Infrastructure, allowing you to explore monitoring and analysis workflows in a read-only demo environment. Database Management connects to demo resources hosted in the Oracle-managed emdemo tenancy in the US West (Phoenix) region. The resources are in the dbmgmt compartment, which is configured for the Database Management demo environment, and are available for exploration only.

Prerequisites

Before you enable demo mode:

  • Your tenancy must be subscribed to the US West (Phoenix) region.
  • Your tenancy administrator must set up the required demo mode policies. If the policies have not been added, a user with administrator privileges can add them from the Add policy panel when enabling demo mode.

Enable Demo Mode

To enable demo mode:

  1. Sign in to the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure console.
  2. Open the navigation menu, click Observability & Management. Under Database Management, click Overview.
  3. On the Get started tile, click Enable demo mode.
    Note

If the required demo mode policies have not been added, the Add policy panel is displayed. Review the recommended policy statements and click Add policy.
  4. After demo mode is enabled, you can explore Database Management features in the demo environment.

For example, on the Oracle Database fleet summary page, you can view fleet inventory, monitoring status, resource usage, alarms, and other details about member databases in the Database Management demo compartment.

In demo mode, most pages use sample data for exploration. However, certain features, such as Performance Hub and AWR Explorer, use available live demo data to provide a realistic experience. A demo mode banner is displayed on supported Database Management pages, and the compartment filter is limited to the dbmgmt demo compartment. Demo mode is read-only, and you cannot create, update, or delete resources or perform other modification actions while exploring Database Management features.

The following pages and features are not available in demo mode:

  • Administration pages and features
  • Monitoring and management of External Database Systems and Oracle Cloud Database Systems
  • Dashboards
  • SQL Insights
  • Capacity Planning

To disable demo mode and return to your tenancy resources, click Disable in the demo mode banner. The Overview page is displayed.
