Get Started with Management Dashboard

As a first step towards getting started with Management Dashboard in a supported Observability & Management service, you must ensure that you have the required permissions.

The permission to use Management Dashboard is granted using Identity and Access Management (IAM) policies. Here's an example of a policy with the manage verb for the management-dashboard-family aggregate resource-type, which grants the dashboard-admins user group the permission to perform all Management Dashboard tasks:

Allow group dashboard-admins to manage management-dashboard-family in compartment ABC

For detailed information on the Management Dashboard resource-types and examples of policies, see Details for Management Dashboard.

An Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Monitoring service permission is required to view metric data in dashboards and create widgets. To grant this permission, a policy with the read verb for the metrics resource-type must be created. Here's an example:

Allow group dashboard-users to read metrics in compartment ABC

For information on the Monitoring service resource-types and permissions, see Details for Monitoring.

Note

In addition to the required Management Dashboard and Monitoring service permissions, you must obtain permissions and complete the other prerequisite tasks for the Observability & Management service in which you want to use Management Dashboard. For information, see supported service documentation.
