Performing Administrative Operations on Compute Nodes

The Private Cloud Appliance compute nodes are the core components for hosting cloud workloads, and require careful management in particular planned or unplanned circumstances. An administrator must perform operations described in this section when compute nodes are provisioned, when maintenance or upgrades take place, when an outage occurs, and so on.

The Rack Units list of the Service Web UI, provides access to extra functions and details through the Actions menu: the button with three vertical dots on the right hand side of each table row. In practice, only the View Details and Copy ID operations are available for all component types. For compute nodes, however, several more options are available in the Actions menu and the compute node detail page. All operations can also be performed from the Service CLI.

Note

When compute nodes are in the discovery state or coming up, their status is 'Failed' until the hardware process transitions them to 'Ready to Provision'. This process typically takes under five minutes. If the failed state persists, use the Service CLI command list ComputeNode to determine the provisioning state of the compute nodes and take appropriate action.
