UEK 8 is now the minimum kernel for Autonomous Linux 9

The Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel 8 (UEK 8) is now the required kernel for the Oracle Autonomous Linux 9 platform image.

Note

If your Autonomous Linux 9 instance requires a reboot, a notice displays on the Instance details page. You can reboot when suitable for your applications and workloads. The service will not automatically reboot your instances

Newly created instances
  • If using a June 2025 or newer Autonomous Linux 9 image, any newly created instances will have the UEK 8 software source attached and UEK 8 installed.
  • If using a May 2025 or older Autonomous Linux 9 image, the Autonomous Linux service will automatically update to UEK 8 during the next daily autonomous update. The instance will require a reboot to enable the new kernel.
Existing instances
Existing Autonomous Linux 9 instances will automatically update to UEK 8 during the next daily autonomous update. The instance will require a reboot to enable the new kernel.
