OCI Kubernetes Engine (OKE) support for on-demand virtual node cycling
- Services: Kubernetes Engine
- Release Date: July 06, 2026
OCI Kubernetes Engine (OKE) now supports the on-demand cycling of virtual nodes. Cycling virtual nodes simplifies the updating of node properties.
First, you modify the existing virtual node pool's virtual node properties. Then, you cycle the virtual nodes in the virtual node pool. When you cycle the virtual nodes, OKE automatically cordons, drains, and terminates existing virtual nodes, and creates new virtual nodes. When new virtual nodes are started in the existing virtual node pool, they have the updated properties you specified.
Before cycling the virtual nodes, you can specify both a maximum allowed number of new nodes that can be created during the operation, and a maximum allowed number of nodes that can be unavailable.
Virtual node cycling is currently available using the CLI and API.
