HeatWave: Support for Versions 9.7.0, 8.4.9, and 8.0.46

HeatWave now supports MySQL database versions 9.7.0, 8.4.9, and 8.0.46. These versions provide security and bug fixes. New DB systems are now based on version 8.4.9, by default. You can optionally select version 9.7.0 or 8.0.46 when creating a new DB system. For existing DB systems, you can manually upgrade them to newer version, such as from version 8.4.8 to 8.4.9, or allow your maintenance policy to handle the upgrade.

All three versions, 9.7.0, 8.4.9, and 8.0.46, are of production-grade quality. If you want to leverage the most recent advancements and enhancements, and stay abreast of cutting-edge technologies, version 9.7 might be the best fit for you. If you require established behavior, versions 8.4.9 or 8.0.46 are more suitable.

Note

As of April 2026, MySQL 8.0 reaches End of Life (EOL). Existing MySQL 8.0 DB systems will continue to work without interruption, but it will not be possible to create new MySQL 8.0 DB systems or make major changes to existing MySQL 8.0 DB systems after April 2026. Critical security patches will be applied to DB system instances running Oracle Linux 8 and MySQL 8.0.46 or higher until April 2027, after which all remaining MySQL 8.0 DB systems will be automatically upgraded to MySQL 8.4.

In version 9.7.0:

  • HeatWave MySQL now supports the tracking of causes for loaded tables becoming stale.

  • HeatWave Lakehouse now supports flexible data ingestion from AVRO files with enhancements in column re-mapping.
