Configure JDBC multi data sources


Multi data sources provide failover and load balancing for connection requests between two or more data sources. Before you create a multi data source, you should create the data sources that the multi data source will manage, and deploy them to same targets that you want to deploy the multi data source to. Note that the underlying databases must have some kind of data synchronization or replication. WebLogic Server does not handle that replication.

The main steps for configuring JDBC multi data sources are:

  1. Create a data source for each data base that you want to connect to. The multi data source will provide failover and load balancing between the data sources. Target the data sources to the same target that you want to target the multi data source. See Create JDBC generic data sources.
  2. Create the multi data source and select the data sources between which you want the multi data source to provide failover and load balancing. See Create JDBC multi data sources.
  3. Optionally, specify a failover callback handler for multi data sources with the Failover algorithm. You can use the callback handler to control if or when the failover occurs so that you can make any other system preparations before the failover occurs. See Register a failover callback handler.
