Configure resource groups at the domain level

After you create a resource group you can configure its resources. All the resources in or referenced by a resource group are targeted together to the same virtual target(s).

To configure the resources for a resource group at the domain level:

  1. If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit (see Use the Change Center).
  2. In the left pane of the Console, expand Environment and select Resource Groups.
  3. On the Summary of Resource Groups page, select the instance you want to configure.

If the table is empty, refer to Create a new resource group at the domain level.

  4. Select the General page and update as necessary:
    1. Name - The name you chose for the resource group when you created it. You cannot change this name.
    2. Resource Group Template - Optional. A named, domain-level collection of deployable resources intended to be used as a pattern by (usually) multiple resource groups. Each resource group that refers to a given template will have its own runtime copies of the resources defined in the template.
    3. Targets - Move one or more virtual targets from the Available list to the Chosen list.

For more information on general attributes, see Configuration Options.

  5. Select the Deployments page and override applications deployed to this resource group as necessary. When you deploy an application you can choose to deploy it to a resource group at the domain level. See Deploying Applications to Resource Groupsfor information on deploying applications to resource groups at the domain level.
  6. Select the Services page and update the services as necessary. You can update the following services:
    • JDBC
    • JMS
    • Bridges
    • Mail
    • Concurrent Utilities
    • Persistent Stores
    • Path Services
    • Foreign JNDI Providers
    • WLDF
    • SAF Agents
    • OSGi Frameworks
See Configuring Resource Groups for more information.
  7. Save your changes.
  8. To activate these changes, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Activate Changes.
Not all changes take effect immediately—some require a restart (see Use the Change Center).
