Create foreign connection factories


A Foreign Connection Factory contains the JNDI name of the connection factory in the remote JNDI provider, the JNDI name that the connection factory is mapped to in the local WebLogic Server JNDI tree, and an optional user name and password. The foreign connection factory creates non-replicated JNDI objects on each WebLogic Server instance that the parent foreign server is targeted to. (To create the JNDI object on every node in a cluster, target the foreign server to the cluster.)

To configure a foreign connection factory, follow these steps:

  1. If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit (see Use the Change Center).
  2. In the Administration Console, navigate to the foreign server resource that you want to configure:
  3. Click the Configuration > Connection Factories tab.
  4. In the resulting Foreign Connection Factories table, click New.

    Note: Once you create a foreign connection factory, you cannot rename it. Instead, you must delete it and create another one that uses the new name.

  5. On the Create a New Foreign Connection Factory page:
    1. In Name, enter a name for the foreign connection factory.
    2. In Local JNDI Name specify the name that the remote object will be bound to in the local server's JNDI tree and is used to look up the object on the local server.
    3. In Remote JNDI Name, specify the name of the remote object that will be looked up in the remote JNDI directory.

    For more information about these fields, refer to Configuration Options.

  6. Click OK.
  7. To configure additional properties for the new foreign connection factory, click it in the Foreign Connection Factories table.
  8. On the Configuration page, you can optionally configure a user name and password to secure the foreign factory.
    1. In User Name, enter the user name that will be passed when opening a connection to the remote server (represented by this foreign connection factory).
    2. In Password, enter the password that will be used in conjunction with the User Name parameter.
    3. Connection Health Checking controls connection health checking for JMS resource reference pools that access this JMS foreign connection factory maping. The default setting is Enabled. Oracle recommends selecting Disabled only when directed to do so by customer support.

    Note: The User Name, Password and Connection Health Checking are only used when the foreign factory is used inside a resource-reference in an EJB or a servlet, and when the Container mode of authentication is used.

  9. After modifying these values, click Save.
  10. To activate these changes, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Activate Changes.
    Not all changes take effect immediately—some require a restart (see Use the Change Center).
