Examples of Creating Calculation Cards for Deductions at Different Levels for the US
You can define and manage calculation cards at multiple levels, from an individual person to a payroll statutory unit (PSU). These cards capture info specific to a person or organization, such as an employee's tax filing status or an employer's tax identification number.
Calculation card entries override default values defined at other levels.
The priority of info, from highest to lowest, is:
-
Personal tax card, such as employee or retiree (payroll relationship level)
-
Tax reporting unit (TRU) calculation card
-
PSU calculation card
-
Legislative data group (LDG) level
You can define calculation cards for both PSUs and TRUs. The basic steps to define and manage these calculation cards are the same at all levels. For further info, see Configure Organization Calculation Cards for the US in the Help Center.
Use these examples to understand when you might define calculation cards at each level.

Legislative Data Group
Scenario: You want to view selected rates for taxes subject to a limit, such as Medicare, Social Security, SUI, and state disability (SDI). These rates are predefined as calculation value definitions and aren't editable.
You can view these rates through the Calculation Value Definitions task.
If you qualify for a special tax rate, such as for SUI, you would enter an override on the appropriate organization calculation card.
