Importing Metadata

You can import metadata from a file in a comma-delimited, tab-delimited, or other format.

Tax Reporting performs validations in the system to ensure that calculations are valid. For example, the Current Provision and Deferred Provision should equal the total Effective Tax Rate (ETR).

These artifacts are supported in imports:

  • Dimensions
  • Smart Lists
  • Exchange Rates

When considering the format to use to import metadata, consider the following information:

  • Using CSV Files

    • The csv files can be easily edited in MS Excel.
    • All metadata settings can be set in the file.
    • Attributes Values have their own column.
    • After dimension import, a reminder to perform a Database Refresh is displayed.

    Note:

The .csv format makes it more difficult to maintain hierarchies because of the parent/child combination and no graphical overview of the hierarchy.

  • Using the Dimension Editor from the Navigator

    • Hierarchies can be viewed, which makes it easier to place members.
    • No need to extract or load your metadata

    Note:

After dimension updates, you must remember to perform a Database Refresh, as there is no reminder.

  • Using the Integrated Dimension Editor

From the Home page, select Application, then the Dimensions tab, then pick the Dimension you want to edit. On the Edit Member Properties tab, you can edit all dimensions, and maintain all properties, including Attribute Values.

    • All Excel functionality is available to copy, paste, insert rows, and so on.
    • No need to extract or load your metadata.
    • Dimension hierarchies can be viewed.
    • Drop-down boxes are available for all properties.
    • Attribute Values can be maintained.
