5.5 Using Sample Datasets

Use sample datasets to build sample applications.

5.5.1 About Sample Datasets

Sample datasets enable you to easily build sample applications. Sample datasets includes sufficient data to build pages with various different components.

Install, refresh, or replace sample datasets within one of the schemas associated with your workspace. The database objects can also be easily removed. Each dataset includes various database objects and sample data. The sample data is available in one or more languages.

Note:

Only a single language can be loaded into the sample database objects. If you select a different language, the currently loaded data is replaced.

5.5.2 Accessing Sample Datasets

Access the Sample Dataset page by clicking Utilities and then Sample Datasets.

To access the Sample Datasets page:

  1. On the Workspace home page, click the SQL Workshop icon.
  2. Click Utilities.
  3. Click Sample Datasets.

The Sample Datasets page appears with a list of datasets.

    Note:

Some Sample Datasets are incompatible with older versions of Oracle Database. The datasets available to you may differ from the ones shown in the previous image.

5.5.3 Installing a Sample Dataset

Install a sample dataset in your workspace.

Tip:

After installing a sample dataset, you have the option to build an application with prepopulated components built on the dataset.

To install a sample dataset:

  1. On the Workspace home page, click the SQL Workshop icon.
  2. Click Utilities.
  3. Click Sample Datasets.

The Sample Datasets page appears with a list of datasets.

  4. On the Sample Datasets page:
    1. Determine the dataset to install.
    2. Under Action, click Install.
The Manage Sample Dataset page appears.
  5. On the Manage Sample Dataset page:
    1. Language - Select a language to install.

Only a single language can be loaded into the sample database objects. If you select a different language, the currently loaded data will be replaced.

    2. Schema - Select a schema.
    3. Click Next.
The Load Sample Dataset page appears listing the database objects to be installed.
  6. Click Install Dataset.
The Load Sample Dataset - Result page appears with a list of installed database objects.
  7. On the Load Sample Dataset - Result page:
    • Create Application - Launches the Create Application Wizard and prepopulates it with components built on the sample dataset.
    • Exit- Exits the Load Sample Dataset wizard.

5.5.4 Refreshing a Sample Dataset

Refresh an installed sample dataset to update the objects or replace the language or schema.

Tip:

After updating a sample dataset, you have the option to build an application with prepopulated components built on the dataset.

To refresh an installed dataset:

  1. On the Workspace home page, click the SQL Workshop icon.
  2. Click Utilities.
  3. Click Sample Datasets.

The Sample Datasets page appears with a list of datasets. Installed datasets display the Schema and Date Installed.

  4. Under Action, click Update.
  5. On the Manage Sample Dataset page:
    1. New Language - Select a new language to install.

Only a single language can be loaded into the sample database objects. If you select a different language, the currently loaded data will be replaced.

    2. New Schema - Select a new schema.
    3. Click Next.
The Load Sample Dataset page appears listing the database objects to be replaced.
  6. On Load Sample Dataset, click one of the following:

    Tip:

The button that displays changes depending upon your previous selections.
    • Refresh Existing Dataset
    • Replace Language
    • Replace Schema
    • Replace Language and Schema
  7. On the Load Sample Dataset - Result page:
    • Create Application - Launches the Create Application Wizard and prepopulates it with components built on the sample dataset.
    • Exit- Exits the Load Sample Dataset wizard.

5.5.5 Changing the Schema for a Sample Dataset
