Use Fleet Maintenance Hub to get to Patch Compliance

Use Fleet Maintenance Hub to subscribe targets, incorporate patch recommendations into images, and get targets to patch compliance.

Target Subscription

For Oracle Enterprise Manager 13.5 Release Update 16 (13.5.0.16) and higher, you can access the Fleet Maintenance Hub page by navigating to: Target then, Databases, then Administration, and click on Fleet Maintenance Hub.

Starting with Oracle Enterprise Manager 13.5 Release Update 21 (13.5.0.21) and higher, you can use Fleet Maintenance Hub to create Gold Images and add new versions to existing images. Fleet Maintenance Hub accommodates maintenance tasks at both target and image levels for administrators, while operators can utilize it for update or upgrade operations. As an operator you still have the option to use the existing Fleet Maintenance UI for these operations.

Fleet Maintenance Hub main screen showing the Target Subscription tab

The central section of the Target Subscription tab, shows two different sets of bar graphs, each set denoting release specific unsubscribed databases and Grid Infrastructures. By clicking on any bar, the table below the graph will show databases and/or Grid Infrastructure running on that release and not subscribed to any particular image.

You can further filter and refine the available data, by using the following filtering criteria: Target Type or family (database or Grid Infrastructure), Release (filter by version), and a text field to search by database name.

Note:

In order to subscribe a database to a image, it is recommended that you have already identified the image to subscribe the database to.

Subscribe Targets to Image

Click on the Subscribe button, a new slide out will appear. To the left, you will see a search function similar to the previous screen's, with one additional field Image Source. To select a image in the slideout, filter by Target Type, Release, Platform, and for Image Source select either Software Library or FPP Server depending on your environment. On the right side you will see the list of available targets based on the selected criteria, select the targets to be subscribed to the image. You can select multiple targets at once. Under Select Image to Subscribe, select the image to be used from the drop down menu, once selected you can see the image details.

Figure 18-3 Patch Recomendations for Images

Patch Recommendations for Images Tab
The second tile shows patch recommendations (Oracle published patch recommendations and additional one off patches) for already existing images. The pie chart allows you to see up to date images, and images with pending patch recommendations to be applied. Click on the image to view its details in the table (below the pie chart) form with the following fields:

Note:

If you have recently subscribed or unsubscribed a target, run a Refresh Path Recommendations before selecting Patch Recommendations for Images to ensure the latest target information details are pulled.
  • Image Name: Name of the Gold Image, by clicking on it a pop-up will appear with image details.
  • Release: Release version to which the image has been created (eg. Oracle Database 12.1.0.2 or 19.0.0.17).
  • Platform: Platform operating system which was used to create the image, (eg. Linux x86-64).
  • Target Type: Whether the image is for database or Grid Infrastructure.
  • Patch Recommendation: This column indicates the health of the image.
    • A green check mark indicates that the current version of the image has all the required latest recommended patches published by Oracle, as well as additional one off patches. The image is in good shape and you should use this image to perform update or upgrade operations.
    • A yellow exclamation mark indicates that one of versions contained in the image has all the required latest recommended patches published by Oracle, but it is not marked current. Only current versions can be deployed. An administrator role is required to change the version of the image to CURRENT.
    • A red X mark indicates that no version contained in the image contains all the latest recommended patches. The administrator has to create a new version including the recommended patches and mark it CURRENT.
  • Subscribed Targets: Shows details about the targets subscribed to the particular image. Click on the numeric to see more details about the targets that are subscribed to the image.
  • Patch Compliance: This linear graph shows how many of the subscribed targets are on the current version. If you see any targets in red, this indicates that they are not on the current version of the image and need to be updated.
  • Action: You can perform image management and update/upgrade operations on the subscribed targets from this menu.

Note:

Images created directly in FPP and synced with Enterprise Manager will lack information about bugs fixes included in the image, impacting patch recommendations for these images. Oracle recommends creating the FPP images using Enterprise Manager to avoid this issue with patch recommendations.
