What’s New for Oracle WebCenter Portal

Here’s an overview of the new features, enhancements, and changes in Oracle WebCenter Portal.

Release 12c (12.2.1.4.0) — April 2023

Feature Description
Case-insensitive search for Custom Facets Added support for case-insensitive search on Custom Facets when integrated with Elasticsearch 7.17.x.
Create and Manage Saved Search UI Updated Create and Manage Saved Search UI to display search term and any facets selected for the search. See Saving Search Results in Using Portals in Oracle WebCenter Portal.
Search Results UI Updated Search Results UI. When the search results are displayed, now the check boxes are displayed for each facet value for easy selection. See Running a Global Search with Elasticsearch in Using Portals in Oracle WebCenter Portal.

Release 12c (12.2.1.4.0) — January 2023

Feature Description
Integrating with OCI Search Service with OpenSearch WebCenter Portal now supports the integration with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Search Service with OpenSearch. See Integrating with OCI Search Service with OpenSearch in Administering Oracle WebCenter Portal.
Custom Administrator for Content Server Connection Before you create the Content Server connection, you will have to create a custom administrator. See Creating a Custom Administrator User in Administering Oracle WebCenter Portal.

Release 12c (12.2.1.4.0) — October 2022

Feature Description
SSL support for Elasticsearch The support for Elasticsearch server enabled to use SSL is part of this patch. See Securing Elasticsearch Using HTTPS in Administering Oracle WebCenter Portal.
Saving selected facets in a Saved Search A feature is added where saving the search query also saves the selected facets. See Saving Search Results in Using Portals in Oracle WebCenter Portal.
OCI Search Service with OpenSearch The support for OCI Search Service with OpenSearch feature is present in the product for evaluation, but it is not intended to be used in production at this time. This is introduced in this version of WebCenter Portal for evaluation preceding its production release. A production version will be coming in the future. An interested customer or partner can contact the WebCenter Portal product management by raising a support ticket and they will make the documentation available to them for feature evaluation.

Release 12c (12.2.1.4.0) — July 2022

Feature Description
Manually starting a reindex crawl When a field type of search attribute is changed, then you can start reindex crawl instead of full crawl. See Manually Starting a Reindex Crawl in Administering Oracle WebCenter Portal.
Filter file types in search results A feature that allows you to specify the file types that should not be displayed in search results has been added. See Configuring the File Type Exclusion in Search Results in Administering Oracle WebCenter Portal.

Feature Description
Elasticsearch version WebCenter Portal supports all minor versions of the Elasticsearch 7.x product version starting with 7.17 and newer. Elasticsearch 7.17.0 has been tested with the WebCenter Portal April bundle patch. See Configuring Elasticsearch in WebCenter Portal in Administering Oracle WebCenter Portal.

New Elasticsearch version The latest Elasticsearch version is 6.8.22.
Configuring Search Query Pattern A new feature is added to configure the search query pattern. See Customizing Search Query Pattern in Administering Oracle WebCenter Portal.

Feature Description
Elasticsearch cluster The support for Elasticsearch cluster is added. See Setting Up Cluster in Administering Oracle WebCenter Portal.
Content Presenter with Contents Under a Folder enhanced The Content presenter taskflow with Contents Under a Folder option is updated. Added two new fields, Sort Order and Limit Results. See Selecting the Contents of a Folder in Building Portals with Oracle WebCenter Portal.
Ability to increase maximum limit for Content Presenter queries An option is provided to increase the maximum limit for CMIS query and Results of a Query. See Content Presenter Task Flow Parameters in Building Portals with Oracle WebCenter Portal.

New Elasticsearch version

The latest Elasticsearch version is 6.8.13.

Clearing Coherence Cache A new WLST command is provided to clear the coherence cache. See deleteWebCenterPortalCoherenceCache in WebCenter WLST Command Reference.
Separate session timeout option An option has been added to specify a separate session timeout for Public Users and Authenticated Users. See Specifying Session Timeout Settings in Administering Oracle WebCenter Portal.

Feature Description
Setting Window timeout A new custom attribute wcAdfLastWindowSessionTimeout is added in WebCenter Portal to set the Windows timeout. See Specifying Session Timeout Settings in Administering Oracle WebCenter Portal.
Coherence cache configuration file Both Portal and Content Presenter can use the same Coherence cache configuration file. See Overriding the Default Configuration in Administering Oracle WebCenter Portal.

Feature Description

Support for Elasticsearch to search portals and content

Oracle WebCenter Portal 12c (12.2.1.4.0) supports Elasticsearch to find your information easily and quickly. You can configure WebCenter Portal to use Elasticsearch to search portals and content such as documents, wikis, blogs, page metadata, discussions, and announcements.

Ability to search for the content of the page components like Content Publisher Text Component, Styled Text component, and HTML Component Use WebCenter Portal to find your information quickly with a global search, narrowing your results using filters and facets and saving your search results. See Searching for Information with Elasticsearch in Using Portals in Oracle WebCenter Portal.
Ability to add Custom facets Oracle WebCenter Portal supports faceted search to refine the search results without running a new search. See Creating Custom Facets in Elasticsearch in Administering Oracle WebCenter Portal.
Ability to save the faceted search After you have performed a search, you can save it so that you can run it again later without having to re-enter the search terms. You can also share the saved search with portals. See Saving Your Search Results in Using Portals in Oracle WebCenter Portal.
Ability to display documents in Content Viewer Content Viewer enables users to view the documents. See Viewing Documents in Content Viewer in Using Portals in Oracle WebCenter Portal.
Polls and Surveys Add Polls to a portal to allow portal members to create, manage, and analyze online polls. See Adding Polls to a Portal in Building Portals with Oracle WebCenter Portal.
An archive file has two security modes An archive file can have High-security mode and Moderate-security mode. The Non-secure mode is removed. See About Securing Archive Files in Administering Oracle WebCenter Portal.
Deprecation of Jive features

Oracle WebCenter Portal has deprecated the support for Jive features (announcements and discussions). If you have upgraded from a prior release to Release 12c (12.2.1.4.0), Jive features remain available in your upgraded instance but Oracle support is not provided for these features. In the next release, Jive features will not be available even in the upgraded instances

Deprecation of Mosaic and Unicorn built-in page templates

Beginning with Release 12c (12.2.1.4.0), Oracle WebCenter Portal has deprecated the support for the built-in page templates Mosaic and Unicorn. However, if you have upgraded from a prior release, these page templates remain available in your upgraded instance.

Deprecation of Omni Portlet

Oracle WebCenter Portal has deprecated the support for the Omni Portlet.

Deprecation of Pagelets Oracle WebCenter Portal has deprecated the support for the Pagelets.
Deprecation of Integration with Oracle Secure Enterprise Search (SES) Oracle WebCenter Portal has deprecated the support for the Integration with SES. If you have upgraded from a prior release, your upgraded instance might be configured to use Oracle SES. In this case, you must configure WebCenter Portal to use Elasticsearch to index and search objects. See Configuring Elasticsearch in WebCenter Portal.
