Introduction
Use HCM Spreadsheet Data Loader (HSDL) to provide use-case specific bulk data-loading spreadsheets for your business users and your inbound integrations. You configure spreadsheet templates for your use cases and assign access to those templates to just the roles that require them. For example, your HR Specialist could have access to a New Hire spreadsheet, whereas the Overtime Hours spreadsheet may only be available to your Payroll Administrator.
You create custom templates in your non-production environments, either from scratch, by importing shared templates from Cloud Customer Connect, or by copying and editing a preconfigured template. Once you've tested a template, you import it into your production environment and assign the roles that can use it.
This tutorial explains how to find shared templates on Cloud Customer Connect and how to import these and your custom templates.
Objectives
In this tutorial, you will:
- Understand how to find shared HSDL templates on Cloud Customer Connect.
- Import a template and configure template access.
- Review and override template parameters.
Prerequisites
To complete this tutorial, you need:
- A HSDL Template Designer role for importing templates into non-production environments, or a HSDL Template Maintenance role for production environments. The role needs to be assigned access to the business objects you want to import templates for.
Follow the tasks in the Configure Access to Design and Maintain HCM Spreadsheet Data Loader (HSDL) Templates tutorial to create such a role.
Note:
This tutorial assumes you've enabled Redwood. Follow the Release 25C version of this tutorial for the navigation and screenshots if this isn't the case.Task 1: Downloading Templates from Cloud Customer Connect
HSDL templates can be found on the HCM Resource Center on Cloud Customer Connect.
- To access the forum from the Cloud Customer Connect home page, click Categories > Human Capital Management > HCM Resource Center.
- Search for topics with the Keyword HSDL to see all available HSDL templates.
- Search for topics with the Keywords HSDL and User to see all HSDL templates for the User object.
- Search for the topic titled HSDL Templates: User Account Management and click the topic name.
- Click on the template you want to import. For example, Add or Remove User Account Roles.
Each HSDL template topic provides:
- A description of the template and the actions that are supported.
- Links to related topics.
- A zip file containing the XML template definition.
- Click the zip file to download it.
- Extract the zip file ready for the XML to be imported.
Tip:
Topics named HSDL Templates: (plural) will provide links to templates related to the subject, such as User Account Management. Topics named HSDL Template: (singular) will provide the download for a specific template.Task 2: Importing Spreadsheet Templates
In this step you'll import the spreadsheet template into the application where you can edit it and make it active.
Tip:
If you're importing a template configured on another environment, use the XML file generated when exporting the template.- Log into the application with a template designer or maintenance role.
- Navigate to My Client Groups > Data Exchange > Spreadsheet Templates.
- Click Import.
- On the Import Spreadsheet Template panel, specify a name that describes the use case the spreadsheet template supports, such as Add or Remove User Account Roles.
- Select the template XML file to import.
- Provide a description so business users can understand when to use this template.
- For legislation-specific templates, select the Legislative Data Group.
- Click Import.
Tip:
A code will be defaulted based on the name specified but you can override this. It needs to be unique.
The panel closes and a processing message communicates that the template is being imported.
Once imported, a banner message is displayed allowing you to download the log file. If the template imports successfully, it appears in the Spreadsheet Templates table.
Tip:
If errors were encountered, download the log file for more information.Next Steps
To complete and activate an imported template, you will need to assign role access and activate the template. You may also want to override template parameters.
