Result Sets

Create result sets to support various types of measurement such as grades, units, grade points, and so on.

Access the Manage Result Sets page: From Student Central, click Search and search for Manage Result Sets.

For example, you might create a letter grade result set in which a grade of A corresponds to these measurements:

  • A numeric value of 90 to 100

  • An outcome of pass

  • A description of excellent

  • 4.00 grade points

Select the Enable earned units check box to indicate that a particular result set, such as letter grade, earns credit for a student. For an audit result set, you might deselect the check box. If a student has an active academic program and enrolls in a course that uses the result set, the credits contribute to the student's period and cumulative statistics.

Student Statistics

The Student statistics check box supports the calculation of student statistic values and the storage of those values on a student's academic record. When the check box is selected, then on the Manage Result Types page, the result set can be associated with only result types for which the Student statistics check box is selected.

Result Value Options

Configure result value options. For each option, some default values appear, but you can edit them. An outcome is required for requisite compliance. Therefore, except for transcript display, you can't edit the outcomes values option.

Result Values

The data that you enter in the Result Value Options tab, such as column names and decimal places, influences the data that displays in the Result Values tab. Further define the result set values to be used by your institution. For example, for a letter grade result set, you might indicate that if a student achieves a score of between 70 and 79, the student receives a grade of C and an outcome of pass.

  • Select the Default check box when an overlap exists between numeric value ranges. For example, in a letter grade result set, a fail outcome might equate to a score between 0 and 59 and a withdrawal outcome to a score between 0 and 0. If you select the Default check box for the score between 0 and 59, then a student with a score of 0 receives a fail outcome. An administrative user can change the outcome to withdrawal.

  • Select the Drop Result check box to indicate that the result value can be used only when a student drops a course. For example, you might select the check box for a grade of W (Withdrawal).

  • If you select the Enable earned units check box, then for each result within a set, use the Earn Credit field on the Result Values tab to indicate whether the result earns credit. For example, you might select No for a result with a fail outcome. If you deselect the check box, for an audit result set for example, No automatically displays in the field.

Rapid Implementation

You can also create and load result sets using the Rapid Implementation process. Use these tasks in the Setup and Maintenance work area, Student Management offering:
