Requisite Schemes

Create requisite schemes to map course outcomes or result set values to a predefined requisite status such as Satisfied.

This mapping influences what happens when a student tries to enroll in a course that has a prerequisite.

Access the Requisite Schemes page: From Student Central, click Search and search for Requisite Schemes.

When you create a requisite scheme, you can map the requisite status to a course outcome or to a result set value. With outcomes mapping, a student who completes the course with a passing grade meets the prerequisite. For example, an A, B, C, or D for a letter grade course outcome. However, the prerequisite requirement might be that the student must pass the course with a grade of C or better. In this case, you can use the results mapping option.

An administrative user can override requisite conditions at the time of enrollment and allow a student to enroll in a course even if the student doesn't meet the requisites. The administrative user sets the requisite status to Satisfied overridden. You're unlikely to include this status in a requisite scheme.

Requisite Scheme Mapping

Let's look at an example. You create an Undergraduate requisite scheme using the outcomes mapping option. You attach the scheme to course Art 101. Here's what happens when a student tries to enroll in course Art 202 for which Art 101 is a prerequisite.

Result Outcome for Art 101

Requisite Status for Art 101

Impact on Enrollment in Art 202

Pass

Satisfied

The student can enroll in Art 202.

Fail

Unsatisfied

The student doesn't meet the requisite conditions and can't enroll in Art 202.

In Progress

In Progress

A result outcome hasn't been finalized for Art 101.

The student can enroll in Art 202 but sees a warning message indicating that they will be dropped from Art 202 if they don't successfully complete Art 101.

When the result for Art 101 is finalized, an administrative user manually assigns a requisite status of Satisfied or Unsatisfied to Art 101, which determines whether the student can enroll in Art 202.

Rapid Implementation

You can also create and load requisite schemes using the Rapid Implementation process.
