Configure Your Academic Structures for the Student Course Schedule

When you set up the academic structures for your institution, be sure to take these steps to provide the configurations needed for the Student Course Schedule.

  1. Create academic periods.
  2. Set up academic period attribute dates. Make sure that each academic period includes these attributes that let the Course Schedule work as described.
    • First Date to Search

From this date, a student can search for courses and add them to their schedule. In the Course Schedule, the academic period shows a status of Ready to Schedule.

    • Last Date to Search

After this date, a student can't search for courses or add them to their schedule.

    • First Date to Enroll

From this date, a student can enroll in course sections from their schedule. In the Course Schedule, the academic period shows a status of Now Enrolling.

    • Last Date to Enroll

After this date, a student can’t enroll in course sections from their schedule. If the end date of the academic period hasn’t passed, the period shows a status of In Progress in the Course Schedule.

    • Last Date to Drop: Do Not Retain

If a student drops a course on or before this drop deadline, the course no longer displays on the student’s schedule.

    • Last Date to Drop: Retain, Last Date to Drop: Penalty, Last Date to Drop: Greater Penalty

If a student drops a course after the Do Not Retain deadline and on or before these drop deadlines, the course continues to display on the student’s schedule.

    • Last Date to Drop

After this date, a student can’t drop a course from their schedule.

  3. Create a reporting period and add it to the academic period.
  4. Add the reporting period to the academic period sequence.
  5. Create Academic Period Attribute Dates for midterm and final grade release dates.
  6. Add the grade release attribute dates to the academic period sequence.
  7. Enroll students in a program of study. Students can see active periods in their course schedule only if they are enrolled in a program.
