Define Scope Plan Options

Scope options determine the scope of the sales and operations plan. Define or modify scope plan options on the Create Plan page, Scope tab or the Edit Plan Options page, Scope tab.

You can configure plan organizations, items, time horizon, and planning level for demand forecasting. You can also define the filters for a plan, such as the hierarchy, level, and level members.

On the Scope tab, indicate which dimension catalog to use for your sales and operations plans. The dimension catalog is a grouping of dimensions and hierarchies for use in plans. Use either the Default Catalog or create your own dimension catalog.

The Scope tab includes the following sections for sales and operations plans:

  • Plan Organizations

  • Plan Items

  • Plan Parameters

Plan Organizations

Specify a hierarchy, level, and level members by which to filter the plan. Also, select the source system code to use for filtering organizations. Fields in the Plan Organizations section are required. If you select a level that's above the organization level, then the plan includes organizations that belong to that parent level.

Plan Items

Specify a hierarchy, level, and level members by which to filter specific items for demand planning. Your selections are used in conjunction with your selections in the Plan Organizations section. Items that belong to a parent level are included. Fields in this section are required for sales and operations plan types.

Plan Parameters

You can set up your sales and operations planning at a weekly, monthly or quarterly level. For better performance, Oracle recommends that you run your sales and operations plans at a monthly level. If you run your plan at the weekly level for two years, you have 104 weeks worth of data. The processing engine must process a larger volume of data, which impacts performance. If you run your plan at the monthly level for two years, you have only 24 buckets, which means better performance. For a long-range strategic planning horizon of three or more years, consider quarter-level planning.

Note: When you define your sales and operations plans for longer horizons using a Gregorian calendar, you might need to extend the calendar. Select the Build Gregorian Calendar schedule process to extend your Gregorian calendar to ensure it goes out far enough for planning.

The following table describes the plan parameters for sales and operations plan types.

Plan Horizon Days

Number of days in the plan. Set horizon days to forecast and plan for future needs. Minimize horizon days to avoid long-running plans. Default is 550 days.

Planning Calendar

Calendar used for forecasting and setting time level. The calendar must belong to the dimension catalog associated with the plan.

Planning Time Level

Planning time level that's used in a plan and is used by forecasting profiles. The sales and operations plan can be generated in weekly, monthly, or quarterly time buckets. Time levels vary, depending on the forecasting calendar that you select. Default value is Gregorian Month.

Measure Catalog

Group multiple sets of measures for use in a plan. By enabling only those measures that are needed for any specific plan, you can perform a focused analysis with improved performance. A planning administrator can create and modify measure catalogs. Default value is Default S&OP Catalog.

Price List

Price list used in revenue calculations. The default price list for use in value calculations is Item List Price, defined in Items table for Organization and Item. Item List Price is always used to calculate revenue, even if a collected price list is marked as the primary. However, if a collected price list is marked as the primary and the Include When Deriving Selling Price checkbox is marked, the revenue is calculated using the derived price.

Exception Set

Lists exceptions to compute as part of a plan and also filters on Organizations and Categories for computing exceptions.

Simulation Set

Lists simulation sets to use in your plan. A simulation set is a set of adjustments to plan inputs. Apply a simulation set to a plan to model different business scenarios, such as increasing available resource capacity.
