Move Materials from Staging Locations in the Factory Floor to Workstations
Modern manufacturing operations require traceability and accuracy in material movements, especially as materials move from the warehouse staging location to the production floor. With this new capability, you can now transfer materials from work center staging subinventories directly to specific workstations where the work order operations are performed. The feature lets you track and record the physical movement of materials to the actual point of use, manage returned or transferred materials between workstations, and record material issues or outputs at the correct location.
Key capabilities include:
- Transfer materials between staging locations and workstation subinventories.
- Record issues and consumption at the workstation point of use.
- Complete work order output quantities into subinventories associated with the physical production location.
This feature enables association of workstations with designated supply and completion subinventories. After materials are picked and moved to the staging subinventory, they can be transferred from the staging subinventory to the workstation subinventory, and, if required, transferred back from the workstation subinventory to the staging subinventory. You can access this new action - Workstation Material Transfer from the Work Execution work area.
Workstation transfers are used to move picked materials from the staging location to the workstation subinventory. For work order operations assigned to a workstation with an associated supply subinventory, the picked materials in staging are available for transfer to that workstation. The following screenshot shows the Workstation Transfers page which enables the transfer of materials from the staging subinventory to the associated workstation subinventory.

Workstation Transfers Page Lists the Operations Assigned to the Workstation
The following screenshot displays the list of materials for the selected operation, including the required quantity and the quantity already transferred. Selecting a material card opens the material details and transfer options.

Transfer Details for Material to Be Transferred to the Workstation
The following screenshot shows the quantity details that can be referenced when entering transfer information. It provides visibility into the assigned quantity and the quantity currently available in the supply subinventory.

Quantity Details for Material to Be Transferred to the Workstation
After transfer details are entered for each material, the transfer can optionally be marked as complete. On submission, the system transfers the materials from the staging subinventory to the workstation subinventory. After materials are transferred to the workstation subinventory, the materials are issued from the workstation location when reporting materials using Production Execution.

The following screenshot shows the Other Transfers option, which allows materials to be moved from the workstation subinventory back to the staging subinventory.

After the workstation, material, and quantity details are entered, the materials can be transferred back to the staging subinventory.

Using this feature enables improved material traceability and inventory accuracy at the point of consumption, helping manufacturers reduce waste, boost production visibility, and meet compliance and operational efficiency goals.
Steps to enable and configure
Use the Opt In UI to enable this feature. For instructions, refer to the Optional Uptake of New Features section of this document.
Offering: Manufacturing and Supply Chain Materials Management No Longer Optional From: Update 26D
Configure the workstation with its supply and completion subinventories, so that operations assigned to the workstation are displayed.
Tips and considerations
- Workstation subinventories should be set as non-reservable; reservations are removed during the transfer from staging to a workstation.
- Transfers, returns, and reassignments are handled via a new dedicated mobile UI, which provides flexibility in managing material locations.
- The system provides available quantities for transfer; operators enter actual transfer amounts to maintain data accuracy.
- LPN control for workstation subinventories is not supported in this release.
- You can only transfer materials that are required for the assigned workstation operations. Returned or unused materials can also be tracked, and moved back as needed.
- This enhanced traceability does not affect the assign/unassign logic for operations, ensuring backwards compatibility with current processes.
