Redwood: Accelerate Structure Building and Editing
You can now take the following actions in the structure grid:
- Create, modify, and delete the structure header
- Create, modify, and delete the component and its child entities in the structure
- Replace a component with another component
- Add components items to the clipboard and spotlight
- Drag and drop from the clipboard and spotlight
In the Redwood page, when you navigate to an item and the structure tab within it, you can create a new structure, modify the header structure, and delete an existing structure. Once you create the header, to build and modify the single-level structure, add one or multiple components using the search and select icon in the toolbar or drag and drop items from the clipboard or spotlight in the navigator. After you add the components, you can quickly modify the following:
- Component level attributes
- Component descriptive flexfields
- Reference designators
- Substitute components
Create a New Structure
When you select the component in the item picker, you can:
- Refine your search using filter chips
- Multi-select the item components to add
- Search and select the components to add to a structure and also perform a search for another component. You can also select a saved search.
- The count in the Add button shows you the number of components that you're adding. Click the Show Selected button to see the selected components or select the saved search.
Search and Select Components to Add
Once you add the components, double-click the cell to modify the component level attributes and the component descriptive flexfields.
Edit Component Level Attributes
To edit the component descriptive flexfield, double-click the descriptive flexfield attribute cell which will open the side panel and you can modify the descriptive flexfields.
You can also add or modify reference designators and substitute components of a component.
To add reference designators, double-click the empty reference designator cell, which will open the side panel drawer. You can add a range, if the range indicator is configured in Manage Item Structure Type Details task, and comma separated values. The behavior of the Quantity Related and Align Quantity checkboxes is the same as it was in the classic user interface.
- Quantity Related: validates the component quantity against the reference designator values
- Align Quantity: automatically calculates the quantity based on the number of reference designators and displays it in the quantity column for the component
After you add the reference designators, you must click Apply so that they appear in the table. Modify the description by selecting the pencil icon in each row.
Create and Edit Reference Designators for a Component
You can navigate to the next component using the navigator icons in the side panel and click the pencil icon to enable the edit mode.
To modify an existing reference designator, double-click the cell to navigate to the side panel and the pencil icon to switch to edit mode.
To add substitute components and descriptive flexfields, double-click the component cell which will open the side panel. To modify and delete components, click the pencil icon next to the substitute component.
You can navigate to the next component using the navigator icons in the side panel and click the pencil icon to enable the edit mode.
Add Substitute Component to a Structure Component
You can use the Replace action to replace one component with another.
Structure Component is Replaced
You can now right-click the component row to use the copy and paste attributes or use the keyboard shortcuts CTRL+C and CTRL+V for the same. You can only copy and paste the attributes that are inline edit and can’t copy and paste attributes edited in the side panel. If you copy consecutive cells that are read-only, only the editable cells will have their values pasted.
Copy and Paste Values for Inline Edit
You can add individual components or sub-assemblies to the Spotlight displayed in the Navigator for that transaction. After adding the components, you can drag and drop them from the spotlight to another structure.
Add Component Items to Spotlight
The drag and drop feature is also supported from the clipboard. Select the items by selecting the checkboxes and drag them to the structure tab.
Drag and Drop from the Clipboard
- Enhance productivity when creating a new structure using the Redwood page within the structure tab.
- Easily access and modify structure header data when creating or deleting a structure.
- Refine the search and optimize the selection of one or multiple components of your structure.
- Maintain focus on your components and improve productivity by quickly accessing and modifying key information inline such as: component attributes, reference designators, and substitute components.
Here's the demo of these capabilities:
Steps to Enable
You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.
Tips And Considerations
- If you haven't created a structure, you must first create the structure header which will enable the edit capabilities in the grid. Example: You must create a primary structure to add components.
- The primary structure is the default structure view when you navigate to the structure tab. If you've only created an alternate structure and not created a primary structure, when you navigate to the structure tab the table will show a 'No data to display' message. Select the alternate structure from the drop-down list to view the components in the alternate structure.
- Item is editable only in Single level view and not Multi level view.
- To save your search in the item picker, you must first perform your search, apply the filters, then save your search as personal or system search.
- When you initiate the Replace action, before saving, the row—including reference designators, substitute components, and descriptive flexfields—is read-only.
- The Replace action is enabled only on a row that isn't modified, added, or deleted.
- In this release, you can’t modify reference designator descriptive flexfields in Redwood. You can only update them in the classic user interface.
- You can only delete reference designators in the Details area of the side panel for reference designators.
- When you drag and drop (move) an item, remember that only the item is copied and not the structure child entities like component level attributes, reference designators, and substitute components.
