Keyboard Layout in the Console

Although you will probably not need to do so often, you can change the keyboard layout in the console. To change the keyboard layout in the console, you have to modify the layout property of the /keymap:default/ service of the Service Management Facility (SMF) and restart the corresponding service. Use the following commands:

# svccfg -s keymap:default setprop keymap/layout = keyboard-layout
# svcadm refresh keymap
# svcadm restart keymap

where keyboard-layout is the desired keyboard layout.

Note - A list of available keyboard layouts can be found in the /usr/share/lib/keytables/type_6/kbd_layouts file on an installed system.
