Oracle Internet Directory (OID) is an LDAP v3 service that combines the scalability and reliability of Oracle database technology with the flexibility and compatibility of the LDAP v3 directory standard.

You administer OID server processes using Oracle Enterprise Manager, just as you do with other Oracle9iAS components. OID provides:
Centralized management of user accounts, including profiles, credentials, and privileges
Enterprise-wide email address book and "white pages" directory
Optional self-service editing of user account information
Centralized management of user preferences across multiple applications
Validation of user login through a single signon server
Enterprise Manager providing status of multiple Oracle9iAS components, including Oracle Internet Directory
