Preparing Contents for a Siebel Executables Upgrade Kit

You can use the Siebel Executables component type to deliver Siebel maintenance releases (patches) or additional language packs to Mobile or Developer Web Clients.

Siebel maintenance releases consist of a set of language-independent files (called base files) and one or more sets of language-specific files. Base files and language-specific files require different upgrade kits:

  • Siebel Client Executable upgrade kits are used to distribute base files.
  • Siebel Client Executable_[language-code] upgrade kits are used to distribute language-specific files.

NOTE:  The base upgrade kit must be installed before language-specific kits are installed. If you wish, you can make the language-specific kits technically dependent on the base kit, so this will be accomplished automatically. For more information see Controlling the Order of Kit Installation.

The following procedure describes how to prepare files for inclusion in either base or language-specific client executable upgrade kits.

To prepare files for inclusion in Siebel Client Executable upgrade kits

  1. Create a new, network-accessible UNC directory to use for storing the base client executable files in the maintenance release or patch.

A typical name for this directory could be \\machine_name\seaw\base.

  2. For each language in your Siebel deployment, create a separate new UNC directory.

These language-specific directories should not be subdirectories of the directory you created in Step 1. Typical language-specific directories could include \\machine_name\seaw\enu for United States English or \\machine_name\seaw\fra for French.

  3. Locate the network image for the Siebel Maintenance Release or patch.
  4. Navigate to the Maintenance Release or patch subdirectory that contains the base installer.exe file for Siebel Windows clients.

A typical location for these files in the network image file hierarchy would be Windows\Client\Siebel_Web_Client.

  5. Copy all of the files (but not the subdirectories) from the directory that you located in Step 4 to the directory that you created in Step 1.
  6. Pick a language that is used in your Siebel deployment, and navigate to the Maintenance Release or patch directory that contains the language-specific files for that language.

For example, files specifically for use with United States English may be located in Windows\Client\Siebel_Web_Client\enu.

  7. Copy all the files from the directory that you located in Step 6 to the corresponding directory that you created in Step 2.
  8. Repeat Step 6 and Step 7 for each additional language that is used in your Siebel deployment.
