Wireless Messaging Usage Scenarios

Wireless messaging may be used by various Siebel application modules and features, as described below. All scenarios require Siebel Wireless Messaging. Users can send outbound wireless messages automatically or manually from within Siebel eBusiness Applications.

One-Way Wireless Messaging Usage Scenarios

With one-way wireless messaging, outbound wireless messages can be sent to various kinds of recipients in a variety of usage scenarios:

  • Send Wireless Message command manually invoked by a user by choosing the application-level menu command File > Send Wireless Message. For more information, see Sending Wireless Messages.

The Send Wireless Message command can also be manually invoked by a user from the communications toolbar. For more information, see Initiating Work Items.

  • Workflows, which can be triggered, for example, when an activity record is assigned or updated. For more information, see Using One-Way Wireless Messaging Workflows.
  • End users can choose to receive automatically triggered, workflow-driven wireless messages. Users activate such alerts in the Mobile screen (requires a license for either Siebel Wireless Messaging or Siebel Wireless). For more information, see Configuring Mobile Alerts.
  • Outbound communication requests, specified using views in the Administration - Communications screen (administrators) or the Communications screen (end users). For more information, see Defining Outbound Communication Requests.
  • Any module that invokes methods of the Outbound Communications Manager business service to send outbound communications for the wireless message channel.

Two-Way Wireless Messaging Usage Scenario

The two-way wireless messaging usage scenario is as follows:

  • Outbound wireless messages can be sent to a recipient automatically using workflows which can be triggered, for example, when an activity record is assigned.
  • Inbound wireless messages are then sent as a response by the recipient of an outbound message. Inbound message delivery status messages are also sent from the MobileSys Network.

Inbound messages are received and processed using the server components Communications Inbound Receiver and Communications Inbound Processor, by workflow policies and workflow processes, and by associated response groups.

For more information, see Using Two-Way Wireless Messaging Workflows.
