Tracking Compensation Processes

Tracking compensation is the process of tracing orders, quotas, and awards as they are routed through the transaction, calculation, and payment process.

Siebel Incentive Compensation focuses on compensating employees for the deals they close and the scores they receive for subjective performance measures. The Employee Compensation Tracking feature allows the compensation administrator to follow the entire compensation process. It tracks several key incentive compensation processes, including Import, Export, Accumulate, Rollup, and Calculation.

The process flow shows the following compensation events.

  1. Orders are taken for products and services sold. The orders might be entered in Siebel Orders Module, a Siebel eBusiness application, or into another order entry system and imported into a Siebel eBusiness application.
  2. NOTE:  If your organization compensates employees on data other than orders, that data can also be imported into the Transaction Workbook for calculation. For discussion purposes, orders are used throughout this chapter.

  3. Compensation administrators import orders into the Transaction Workbook, where they can review the order and make modifications without affecting the actual order itself. They can also create new transactions in the Transaction Workbook.
  4. When the transactions have been reviewed and modified, compensation administrators use the Accumulate process to accumulate the transactions to the Achievement Containers Workbook, where they can be reviewed by each employee.
  5. The Calculation Workbook allows the administrator to review and modify the compensation events for each employee and to review calculated compensation records.
  6. Compensation administrators also enter employee transactions (scores on performance measures such as annual review, customer satisfaction, leads, periodic review, service level, time available, MBO, and KSO) into the Employee Workbook.
  7. Compensation administrators can use the Export process to export the transactions into the Calculation Workbook. There, they create a new record for each employee on each deal in the Calculation Workbook.
  8. NOTE:  It is a recommended best practice to set up an audit trail on fields in the Calculation Workbook to record any changes to values for released calculation runs. For information on setting up an audit trail, see Applications Administration Guide.

  9. Compensation administrators can make the calculated compensation records available to end users to review before releasing the results by selecting the Visible check box flag.
  10. After results are released, they can be viewed in the Employee Balances.
  11. After compensation is calculated, the administrators review and verify the calculation amounts. When the calculations are verified, the administrators release the results to the field and export the payment amounts to the payroll system.
