Creating a Category or Subcategory

If you create a catalog, you will need to create at least one new category for that catalog. A category contains related auction items such as Computer Hardware. A category can contain both auction items and fixed-price products.

To create a category

  1. Navigate to the Catalog Administration screen.
  2. In the Catalogs list, click the hyperlink for the catalog to which you want to add a category.

    3. The Categories screen appears.

  3. Click New.

    4. A new line appears in the Categories list.

  4. Complete the following fields.

    5. Field
    Description
    Name
    A unique name for the category.
    Display Name
    The name that will be shown on the website.
    Description
    A short description of what type of items the category will include.
    Effective Start Date
    The date and time when the category becomes available for use. The default is the current date and time.
    Effective End Date
    The date when the category stops being available for use.
    Active
    Click the box if you want this category to be considered active.
    Private
    Click the box to make the catalog visible only to Access Groups.
    Parent Category
    Select the parent category from the dialog box, if this category is to be a subcategory.
    Usage
    Choose a category from the dialog box.
    Display Template
    A template for displaying the category on the Siebel eSales website. Choose Auction from the drop-down list.

    Image file associated with the category. Choose one from the dialog box.
