Overview

This document provides information about upgrading previous versions of BEA WebLogic Integration^{^TM} to WebLogic Integration 8.5.

1. The WebLogic Integration 8.5 installation program includes the following WebLogic Platform Version 8.1 SP4 components: WebLogic Server^®, WebLogic Workshop, and WebLogic Portal^®. Also includes BEA JRockit^® 1.4.2.08.

2. These adapters have been replaced in WebLogic Integration 8.1 with system features. Consequently, these two adapters cannot be upgraded, and you will need to replace their implementation with the new features.

Terminology Used in This Document

We recommend that, before proceeding, you familiarize yourself with the following terminology:

Upgrade - To update BEA WebLogic Platform (and its components) from a previous release or service pack to a more recent release or service pack. This may include updating an existing application or domain configuration to run in a more recent version.
Migrate - To move an application or domain configuration from a third-party product to a BEA product.
Interoperability - (1) The capability of an application deployed in one release or service pack to communicate with another application that is deployed in a different release or service pack. (2) The capability of WebLogic Platform components to communicate with third-party software via standard protocols.
Compatibility - The capability of an application built using one release or service pack to run in another release or service pack, with or without rebuilding the application.

Before You Upgrade Your Systems

The WebLogic Platform 8.1 Upgrade Planning Guide describes how to complete the following tasks prior to upgrading your WebLogic Platform software:

Backing up applications and domains
Backing up Node Manager files
Choosing an upgrade installation method

Note: Neither Smart Update nor the upgrade package installer can be used for upgrading from WebLogic Platform 8.1 SP4 to WebLogic Integration 8.5. This upgrade path requires a complete, full installation.
