Using Store-and-Forward Messaging with the Siebel Service Handheld Application

If a Siebel Service Handheld application is enabled with Store-and-Forward Messaging, several icons appear on the top-right corner of the screen, as shown in Table 5.

Inbound Message Icon. When an inbound message arrives at the Siebel Handheld application, a beep sound sounds and the Inbound Message icon blinks. Tapping the icon stops the icon from blinking and opens the Wireless Alerts List view. This view displays the inbound messages received by the application in reverse chronological order.

Asynchronous Query Icon. When asynchronous query results arrive at the Siebel Handheld application, the Asynchronous Query icon blinks. Tapping the icon opens the Async Query List view to display the returned results.

For more information about asynchronous query functionality, see Overview of Asynchronous Query on the Handheld Device.

Outbound Message Icon. When an outbound message is created and inserted into a user's outbound queue on his device, the icon blinks. The icon stops blinking when all the messages in the user's device outbound queue have been delivered to the server inbound queue.

For example, when the activity arrives at the Siebel Handheld application, a beep sounds and the Inbound Message icon flashes. The user taps the icon to open the Wireless Alerts List view. This view provides a list of alerts, indicating the inbound messages that have arrived at the device and the times when the messages were received. Closing the window navigates the user back to the previous screen or view. If the user updates an activity on the Service Handheld application, such as by changing the activity status, a message is created and inserted into the user's outbound queue on the device and the Outbound Message Icon flashes. When the outbound message is delivered to the server inbound queue, the Outbound Message Icon stops flashing.

NOTE:  After a user performs a handheld synchronization, the application removes all the data in the Wireless Alerts List view.
