Selecting a Media Delivery Method

In this section, you need to select a method for providing the Linux installation media. The procedures for installing Linux differ depending on your media delivery method.

Media Delivery Method
Additional Requirements
Using the Serial or Video Ports and a Local DVD: Uses a physical CD/DVD drive connected to the server and a terminal connected to the server's serial or video port.
Uses a USB CD/DVD drive directly connected to the server's USB dongle port, and access to the server console through the serial or video port. To install Linux, refer to Local Installation By Accessing the Console Using the Serial or Video Port.
Using ILOM and a Remote DVD or ISO image: Uses a redirected physical CD/DVD drive or ISO image file on a remote system running JavaRConsole.
A remote system with a browser, an attached physical CD/DVD drive, a Linux distribution DVD, and network access to the server's management port. To set up this method, refer to Remote Installation By Accessing the Console Using ILOM.
Using a PXE image: Uses a customized image available through the PXE environment.
A server setup and running PXE and a image customized for your server, refer to Configuring a Linux Server to Support PXE Installation.
