Chapter 1 Pre-Installation Issues and Instructions
This chapter includes the following sections:
"Product Requirements and Limitations"
Product Requirements and Limitations
This section describes the minimum system requirements for installing the iPlanet Web Server and iPlanet Delegated Administrator for Messaging and Collaboration on one computer system. It also describes the limitations of the iPlanet Delegated Administrator
One of the following operating environments:
iPlanet Messaging Server 5.2
Netscape Directory Server 4.16 or iPlanet Directory Server 5.1
iPlanet Web Server Enterprise Edition 6.0 SP2 (Service Pack 2)
- If you are running Web Server on an HP platform, see the following iPlanet Web Server documentation on required HP patches:
http://docs.iplanet.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/60sp2/rn60sp2.html#35223
- In addition, the following patches should be installed on the HP machine in order for iPlanet Web Server to properly function:
- HP-UX 11.0 (800 series)
XSWHWCR1100 (HP-UX 11.0 Hardware Enablement and Critical Patches, September 2001)
QPK1100 (HP-UX 11.00 Quality Pack, September 2001)
- HP-UX 11.0 (700 series)
B8110AA (Java 2 SDK for HP-UX (700/800), PA1.1 + PA2.0 Add On)
B8111AA (Java 2 RTE for HP-UX (700/800), PA1.1 + PA2.0 Add On)
B9098AA (Java 2 Plugin for HP-UX (700/800))
HPUXEng32RT (English HP-UX 32-bit Runtime Environment)

XSWHWCR1100 (HP-UX Hardware Enablement and Critical Patches, September 2001)
QPK1100 (Quality Pack for HP-UX 11.00, September 2001)
Web Browser requirements:
- To identify any existing patches on your system, use the swlist command. To install HP-UX patches, use the swinstall command. Refer to the HP documentation for more information.
- A list of recommended patches for HP-UX 11.00 can be found at the following URL: http://us-support.external.hp.com/wpsl/bin/doc.pl/
Note See the iPlanet Messaging Server 5.2 Release Notes for information on HP-UX platform tuning recommendations.
Hardware Requirements
The hardware requirements are similar to the iPlanet Web Server's hardware requirements. The following are the minimum system requirements for:
A minimum of 128 MB RAM.
A minimum of 150 MB hard disk space for the installed server files, although double (2x) this amount is required during the installation process. After installation you can remove the installer files.
Cannot upgrade from an older version of the iPlanet Delegated Administrator. Instead, you need to uninstall the previous version of iPlanet Delegated Administrator and install the version of the product bundled with the new version of Messaging Server that you install.
Will only work with user or group entries provisioned using the iPlanet Delegated Administrator command line interface, the iPlanet Delegated Administrator GUI, or the iPlanet Messaging Server Provisioning Guide. Follow the guidelines in the Provisioning Guide to upgrade existing entries for use with the iPlanet Delegated Administrator.
If you are migrating your mail server from SIMS or Netscape Messaging Server to iPlanet Messaging Server, iPlanet Delegated Administrator for Messaging and Collaboration will work with your user or group entries, provided that you follow the migration process outlined in the iPlanet Messaging Server Migration Guide.
If your Messaging Server deployment has separate Configuration and User/Group directories, the iPlanet Delegated Administrator configuration cannot be stored in a separate directory from the User/Group directory. Instead, the Delegated Administrator configuration must be stored in the User/Group directory.
Pre-Installation Procedures
Before proceeding with the installation instructions for the iPlanet Delegated Administrator for Messaging and Collaboration you must complete the following:
Install the iPlanet Messaging Server and record the parameters entered at installation (see the iPlanet Messaging Server Installation Guide) in the table below.
Part of the iPlanet Delegated Administrator installation procedures consist of installing the iPlanet Enterprise Server (Web Server) and notating the install parameters (see "Step 4: Install or Upgrade to iPlanet Web Server 6.0 SP2 (Service Pack 2)"). The table below lists all the attributes you will need to collect for iPlanet Delegated Administrator installation. Write these attributes in the blank spaces. These will be used during the iPlanet Delegated Administrator installation described in the follow chapter.
