Sun ONE Application Server 7, Enterprise Edition Administrator's Guide

Appendix D
Running Sun ONE Message Queue Broker with Trial Enterprise License

SunTM Open Net Environment (Sun ONE) Application Server 7, Enterprise Edition uses the SunTM Open Net Environment (Sun ONE) Message Queue as the JMS provider.

This appendix describes how to run the Sun ONE Message Queue (MQ) broker using a trial enterprise license so that you can evaluate the enterprise features of the MQ broker Enterprise Edition.

About MQ

The Platform Edition of MQ is bundled with the Sun One Application Server.

The Platform Edition of MQ does not include the following features that are offered by the Enterprise Edition of MQ.

You can, however, run the MQ broker with a trial license of the Enterprise Edition of MQ. The trial license has a limited 90-day duration enforced by the software, making it suitable for evaluating the enterprise features available in the Enterprise Edition of MQ.

Running MQ Broker with Trial License of Enterprise Edition of MQ

To run the MQ broker with a trial license of the Enterprise Edition of MQ, start the MQ broker that is used by the application server instance with the following additional option:

-license try

Note

By default, when an application server instance is started, a MQ broker instance is also started.

Example: Running the MQ Broker with Trial License of Enterprise Edition of MQ

The following example shows how you can use the asadmin command to run the MQ broker with the trial license of the Enterprise Edition of MQ. The application server instance in this example is named server1.

asadmin set “server1.jms-service.startArgs= -license try” --user admin --password mypassword --port 4848 --host localhost

Note

Enclose the string server1.jms-service.startArgs= -license try in double-quotes, as shown in the example.

Note

Make this change when the application server instance is not running.

For more information on JMS service attributes, see Appendix A, "Using the Command Line Interface."

For the change to take effect, manually apply the configuration and restart the application server instance.

Purchasing the Enterprise Edition License of MQ

After the evaluation period, if you want to purchase the Enterprise Edition license, you can purchase it at:

http://store.sun.com/catalog/doc/BrowsePage.jhtml?catid=62774

Once you have installed the purchased Enterprise Edition license, you no longer need to use the -license try option to run the MQ broker with the Enterprise Edition of MQ.
