Connect the Internal Cables

The internal cables are shipped with the Oracle FS System. Ethernet cables support the private management interconnect (PMI). A serial cable establishes the backup heartbeat path for the Pilots. SAS cables support the Backend SAS Interconnect.

Prerequisites:
  • You unpacked the cables and the power cords from the shipping cartons.

  • You are familiar with the labels on each end of the cables shipped with the Oracle FS System.

  • You supplied an Ethernet CAT6a cable for connecting the Pilot to the customer management network.

  • The cable management arms (CMAs) are installed on the Pilots and the Controllers.

Before you begin connecting the internal cables for the Oracle FS System, verify that you have the following cables unpacked from the shipping cartons and organized so that you can easily identify them as you cable the system:
  • Three blue Ethernet CAT6a cables used to connect the Pilot nodes.

  • Two red Ethernet CAT6a cables used to connect the Pilot nodes to the Controller nodes.

  • Three green Ethernet CAT6a cables used to connect the Controller internal connections.

  • One black serial RJ45 rollover cable used to establish the backup heartbeat path for the Pilots.

  • Mini-SAS high density (HD) to mini-SAS HD cables used establish the SAS connections between the Controller nodes. The number of cables included in the shipment depends upon the configuration of the system.

  • Mini-SAS to mini-SAS HD cables used to connect the Controller nodes and the Drive Enclosure strings. The number of cables included in the shipment depends upon the configuration of the system.

  • Mini-SAS to mini-SAS cables used to connect the Drive Enclosures within a string. The number of cables included in the shipment depends upon the configuration of the system.

Caution
Do not connect the power distribution units (PDUs) to external power sources until the internal cabling is complete.
