Changing a Compensation Plan

The mix of salary, compensation, and uplifts to accomplish business objectives might change frequently in a rapidly changing sales environment. For this reason, Oracle Sales Compensation lets you change or restructure any aspect of a compensation plan.

Because you can assign the same plan to many salespeople, however, ensure you are aware of how the changes you are making will impact individual salespeople. See Viewing All Salespeople Assigned to a Plan for information on viewing all salespeople assigned to a plan before you change it.

When you change a compensation plan, Oracle Sales Compensation propagates all changes to salespeople assigned to the plans. For customized plans, Oracle Sales Compensation propagates all changes except changes to the quota or payment rates (unless the change in rates is accompanied by changes to brackets).

Warning: Before you change a rate table, check which plan elements the table is assigned to. Any changes you make are propagated to all plan elements to which that rate table is assigned, and thus to any salespeople on any of the compensation plans that use those plan elements.

Similarly, before you change a plan element, check which compensation plans that plan element is assigned to. Any changes you make are propagated to all plans to which those plan elements are assigned, and thus to any salespeople that use those plans.

When you change compensation plans and plan assignments, keep these rules regarding time intervals in mind:

Attention: Oracle Sales Compensation does not allow you to make a period change that excludes a salesperson currently assigned to the plan. For example, suppose that Global's Field_PC_Rep plan has a period of FY '95, with some salespeople assigned to the plan for the full year. Global cannot narrow the period without first narrowing the assignment periods of the salespeople on that plan.
