This chapter describes the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) adapter and the hardware and software requirements.
This chapter contains these topics:
The SMTP adapter enables an Oracle SMTP application to be integrated with other applications using Oracle9iAS InterConnect. This adapter is useful in all enterprise application integration (EAI) environments where e-mail uses the Internet Message Access Protocol 4 (IMAP4) and SMTP transport protocols. EAI is the integration of applications and business processes within the same company (known as an enterprise).
The SMTP adapter can monitor incoming messages in the form of e-mail placed on an IMAP server. The SMTP adapter is also capable of sending messages to SMTP servers. The payload type (the data being delivered to a destination) for this adapter is one of the following:
Figure 1-1 depicts the data flow of incoming messages (from an IMAP server to Oracle9iAS InterConnect).
Figure 1-2 depicts the data flow of outgoing messages (from Oracle9iAS InterConnect to an SMTP server).
The following sections describe SMTP adapter system requirements:
