B.1 Changing Infrastructure Services for Discoverer

This section explains how to specify a different Infrastructure Services for Discoverer, and contains the following topics:

B.2 About OracleAS Release 9.0.4 installations

An installation of Oracle Application Server 10g (9.0.4) consists of two tiers:

• The OracleAS infrastructure tier, which provides OracleAS infrastructure security services (SSO/OID) and OracleAS infrastructure meta-data in the OracleAS infrastructure database. There is a single installation of the OracleAS infrastructure tier in an OracleAS instance.

• The OracleAS middle tier, which includes applications such as OracleAS Discoverer and OracleAS Portal. There can be multiple instances of middle tiers, each using a single OracleAS infrastructure tier. For example, you might deploy Discoverer on three servers, which are all using the same OracleAS infrastructure machine.

B.3 About changing Infrastructure Services for OracleAS Discoverer

You change Infrastructure Services for OracleAS Discoverer when you want Discoverer to use a different OracleAS infrastructure machine without having to re-install the Discoverer middle tier(s).

For example, you might deploy a test Discoverer system using one infrastructure server. Having tested the system, you might want to deploy it as a production system using a different infrastructure server.

In the figure below, the OracleAS Discoverer middle tier was originally installed with OracleAS infrastructure 1. After changing Infrastructure Services, the OracleAS Discoverer middle tier uses OracleAS infrastructure 2.

When you change Infrastructure Services, you move the entire OracleAS metadata repository from one machine to another. The OracleAS metadata repository contains the following Discoverer-related schemas:

• the DISCOVERER5 schema, which stores the meta-data and cache for the Discoverer Portlet Provider

• the ORASSO_DS schema, which stores connection information for SSO, non-SSO, and public connections
